Now you are on the internet and ANYONE in the world (well, almost) with a computer and internet access can visit your site.  The next step is to get your site on search engines so if someone Googles you, or if they Google something you make, you will show up in the search.

To get started with Google:  http://www.google.com/submityourcontent/index.html.

Google will send you a "snippet" of HTML to paste into your site in order to "confirm" your site for search engines.  If you do not know HTML, I have found the easiest way to deal with this snippet is to create a new page in your site, make sure it is NOT listed in the site menu, but IS listed in the site map.  Paste the snippet into the page title and upload. I've done this with iWeb and Sandvox.  It won't show up anywhere, but Google will be able to find it for their search engine and will confirm your site.

To get started with Yahoo:     http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/

Other simple things you can do:

~make sure you have a site map on your site.  It really helps to include it in your site menu in order for the various pages to be picked up quicker by search engines.

~ make a signature block on your email account so whenever you send a message to someone it will have you name, phone number (whatever other information you want) and your website.  Many people have clicked on the link to my my website as a result of reading an email message I sent them.  I've gotten several orders this way, and lots of compliments.

~print your web address printed on your checks.

~trade links with galleries and other artists...you put their website address on your website and they do the same for you on their website
